Gift category

Wine and alcohol as a gift with the order (18+)

A wine discount fits an adult audience, for example in tableware or delicatessen stores. It is an 18+ category, so it is enabled manually only.

Wine and alcohol (18+)

What it means for the customer

An adult shopper gets a discount on a first order of wine, craft beer or a wine box subscription. The partner checks age at checkout under the laws of its country.

When it's hidden. It competes with alcohol and delicatessen stores. It doesn't suit kids' stores, sports stores or stores with a young audience, so don't enable it there.

Alcohol is an 18+ category with different advertising rules in every EU country. That is why it is off by default. Turn it on only if your audience is adult (tableware, delicatessen, wine books) and alcohol advertising is allowed in the countries you sell to.

What the shopper sees

When the category is on, a card from a wine club, wine store or tasting appears in the gift block: a discount on the first box, the first order or the first tasting. The shopper taps it on the thank-you page or in the order confirmation email and lands on the partner's site.

The partner checks the shopper's age when placing its own order, under the laws of its country. Without confirmation of legal age the partner won't complete the order.

Why the category is enabled manually only

Alcohol is an 18+ category, and advertising rules differ in every EU country. In some places it is restricted, in others allowed with conditions. Next to a store receipt that family members may open, such an offer should be a conscious decision by the owner.

Enable the category when the audience is adult and alcohol advertising is allowed in the countries you sell to: for example tableware, delicatessen, coffee and book stores (including books about wine). Kids' and sports stores, and stores with a young audience, shouldn't enable it.

What partners offer and how it makes money

The partner pays for a new customer, meaning a first confirmed order that passed the age check. The check takes 14–30 days, then 60% of the payout is credited to your store, and withdrawals go out by SEPA from €50.

Formats you'll see:

  • a discount on the first wine club box
  • a fixed euro discount on the first order at a wine store
  • a tasting set at a reduced price
  • a discount on the first tasting or workshop
  • free shipping for a new customer

Questions

Who checks the shopper's age?

The partner, when placing its own order, under the laws of its country. The store is responsible for the decision to enable the category.

Can I show wine only in the email?

Display placement is set in the dashboard. If you need a specific rule, write to us.

What about alcohol advertising if I sell to several countries?

Rules differ by country. If alcohol advertising is restricted in even one country you sell to, it is better not to enable the category, or to check with a lawyer. The decision rests with the store.

What does a shopper under 18 see?

The partner won't complete an order without an age check. But the offer will already have been shown, so stores where part of the audience is underage shouldn't enable the category.

Does it suit a coffee and tea store?

Often yes: the audience is adult and values taste. But if you also sell drinks, AI will assess the overlap in the catalog.
