CPC — Cost Per Click

CPC is a pricing model in which the advertiser pays for every click on an ad, even if the person does nothing afterward.

CPC is the standard for search and display advertising. The advertiser pays for the visit and is responsible for turning the visitor into a customer.

For a publisher, CPC pays faster and more predictably than CPA, but a single click payment is usually far smaller than a payment for a customer. ThanklyClub works on CPA: the partner pays for a new customer, not for a click.

Example

For example, the cost per click is €0.30. In a month the ad gets 500 clicks: the advertiser pays €150, even if only five of those clicks became customers.

How to calculate it / how it works

Formula: spend = number of clicks × price per click. The cost per customer = spend ÷ number of customers, and that is the number you can compare with CPA.

For example, the price per click is €0.30. Step 1: the ad gets 500 clicks. Step 2: 500 × €0.30 = €150. Step 3: the clicks produce 5 customers. Step 4: one customer cost €150 / 5 = €30.

Where it shows up in ThanklyClub and common mistakes

In ThanklyClub, clicks are not paid: the partner pays for a new customer. Clicks are still counted, because CTR and EPC are built from them. The network counts no more than three clicks on one offer from one order.

  • Comparing CPC and CPA directly. The price of a click and the price of a customer are different things, so compare the price of a customer.
  • Choosing cheap clicks without regard to quality. If none of them buy, a cheap click turns out expensive.
  • Expecting store income from every click. In ThanklyClub, money comes only for confirmed customers.
  • Missing repeat clicks by the same person: the network counts no more than three clicks on an offer from one order.

FAQ

How is CPC different from CPA?

With CPC you pay for a visit, with CPA you pay for a target action after it. A click guarantees nothing, so CPC is cheaper and the advertiser carries more risk.

Does ThanklyClub pay for clicks?

No. Partners pay for a confirmed new customer. Clicks show up in the statistics, but no money is credited for them.

What counts as a good CPC?

There is no single number: it depends on the category and the share of clicks that become customers. Look at the cost per customer, not per click.
